The Wamkey Set of 3 Pcs Including Drill contains three graduated key instruments: numbered No.1, No.2, and No.3, plus one CMV autoclavable drill bur, all constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel. Each key features a long, slim flat handle tapering toward a fine working tip, with the WAM engraved on the handle face. The three tip sizes differ in width, with No.1 being the narrowest and No.3 the widest, accommodating different crown slot dimensions after drilling. The included bur has a gold/titanium-coated shank for vibration-free cutting through metal and porcelain at the cement layer.
The Wamkey system operates on compressive rotational force, a mechanism completely distinct from all traction-based crown removers. The clinician drills a thin horizontal window in the crown at the cement layer level, inserts the appropriate key to the base of the slot, and applies a quarter-turn rotation. This rotational motion generates upward compressive pressure against the inner crown surface, pushing the crown off its abutment along the vertical axis without applying any tensile load to the periodontal ligament. How do the 3 different sizes work?
- Size No. 1 (Small): Always start with this size to get as close as possible to the tooth’s vertical axis for maximum efficiency.
- Size No. 2 (Medium): Use this if the smallest key spins in the cavity without gaining torque, which often happens due to thick cement or decay.
- Size No. 3 (Large): This key is 40 times stronger than the others and is reserved for large molars or extremely tight crowns.
