Osteometer Measuring Forcep
Three measurements separate a successful implant from a failed one, bone width is the first. The Osteometer Measuring Forcep reads alveolar ridge width directly at the bone surface, bypassing the soft tissue overestimation that radiographic and cast-based methods carry. Constructed from AISI 304 medical stainless steel with a high-polish rust-free finish, it measures 155mm in overall length and covers a ridge width range of 0 to 25mm. The instrument operates on a reverse-scissors mechanism: two crossed arms pivot at a central screw joint, with ring handles at the base and two fine pointed tip-pins at the working end. Squeezing the ring handles spreads the pointed tips apart, the spread distance equals the measured bone width. Millimeter graduation scales are marked on both arm faces, readable from either side without reorienting the instrument. The Leader Surgical brand mark is engraved on one arm.
The pointed pins penetrate the overlying mucosa at the alveolar crest and contact the buccal and lingual cortical bone surfaces directly. This transmucosal measurement gives the actual bone dimension; not the soft tissue envelope, which determines the maximum implant diameter that can be placed without cortical perforation. The instrument is fully autoclavable and CE compliant.
