The Membrane Fixation (Tack) Kit is presented in a black fabric-lined rectangular case with a hinged magnetic closure and foam-cut compartments holding two components. The GBR Membrane Fixation kits Bone Tacks Screws driver system includes a red anodized oval dual-section tack organizer; one compartment housing approximately 16 to 20 pre-loaded titanium bone tacks arranged in a retention grid, and one empty storage section, alongside a stainless-steel cylindrical screwdriver handle with a segmented knurled grip body and a fine tapered working tip for precise tack engagement and delivery.
The titanium bone tacks feature a 2.0–2.5mm cap diameter, a 1.0mm shaft diameter, and an inverted conical underside structure that resists loosening after placement. No pilot drilling is required in standard bone density, as the tapered tip self-penetrates cortical and cancellous bone on manual pressure. This bone tack driver set withstands full steam autoclave sterilization at 134°C and is fully compatible with Class B autoclaving protocols. The tack organizer, driver handle, and case components are all autoclavable, allowing the complete system to cycle as a unit between procedures.
Oral surgeons and implantologists use this Tack Kit during guided bone regeneration, ridge augmentation, and collagen or PTFE membrane stabilization procedures. After positioning the barrier membrane over the graft site, the surgeon loads a tack onto the driver tip, positions the point at the membrane edge against cortical bone, and applies firm downward pressure to drive the tack through the membrane and into bone, anchoring it against displacement throughout the osseointegration and healing period.
Leader Surgical has put together a kit that respects both the surgeon’s time and the procedure’s demands, compact enough to sit cleanly on any surgical tray, organized enough to eliminate fumbling, and built to the standard that GBR surgery genuinely requires.
Do tacks need to be removed after the bone has healed?
It depends on the material. Titanium tacks are biocompatible and can technically be left in place if they are not interfering with future implants. However, most clinicians remove them during the second stage of surgery (implant placement) for a cleaner site. Resorbable tacks (made of polymers like L-lactic acid) do not require removal as they naturally degrade.
