The Iris Scissors – CeramaCut® 9 cm Straight (Article# LS9-495) measures 9cm in total length and carries a straight, fine-pointed blade configuration built on a surgical stainless-steel body. The entire instrument: blades, shank, and finger rings is coated with a black ceramic finish, the hardest surface treatment available in scissor manufacturing. Tungsten carbide inserts are fused into both cutting edges, scoring approximately 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. One blade carries micro-serrations along its edge; the opposing blade is smooth and razor-sharp. A single gold-tone tension screw at the pivot point is the only contrast element against the all-black body. The finger rings are rounded and sized for a gloved hand.
The black ceramic finish on this Iris Scissors T.c Black Ceramic Coated 9cm instrument delivers two functional benefits simultaneously. First, it reduces inter-blade friction, allowing a smoother and more consistent cutting stroke than bare metal instruments. Second, it eliminates glare under surgical loupes and operating microscopes. The tungsten carbide scissors configuration retains a working edge five to ten times longer than standard stainless steel, significantly reducing the frequency of resharpening across high-volume practice use.
Periodontists, oral surgeons, and plastic surgeons rely on the Iris Scissors – CeramaCut® 9 cm Straight for suture removal, gingival tissue trimming, connective tissue graft shaping, and fine dissection during periodontal flap procedures and soft tissue grafting surgeries. The sharp, fine tips allow controlled entry into confined intraoral spaces where larger scissors cannot reach.
Leader Surgical offers this instrument as part of its microsurgery line, combining black ceramic coating and TC edge technology in a single instrument built to hold clinical performance across repeated autoclave cycles.
What is another name for iris scissors?
Iris scissors are a type of scissors with short blades that was originally developed for ophthalmic surgery. They are alternatively referred to as Iris forceps in the United Kingdom and Asia. Iris scissors are also available in the crafting market and are sometimes used for the production of fabric-related goods.
