Height Gauge 0.18

Four heights. One bar. Zero guesswork. The Height Gauge 0.18 is a double-ended flat stainless-steel instrument slotted specifically for 0.018-inch bracket systems, the narrower slot width that separates this gauge from its 0.022-inch counterpart. The top end carries two side-by-side forked slots at 5.0mm and 4.0mm; the bottom end carries slots at 4.5mm and 3.5mm, all four standard bracket heights distributed across both working ends. Each slot is ground to 0.018 inches in width, matching the tie-wing dimension of 0.018″ prescription brackets. The Leader Surgical brand mark is engraved on the shaft face.

Slot width is not interchangeable between gauge variants. Placing a 0.022″ gauge on a 0.018″ bracket tie-wing introduces lateral play, the bracket can shift inside the oversized slot before the adhesive sets. The 0.018″ slots of this instrument eliminate that clearance entirely, seating flush against both tie-wing faces and locking bracket position during the height reading. The flat bar body requires no dedicated handle grip — it sits between two fingers with the selected fork positioned at the incisal edge. The instrument is fully autoclavable at 134°C and meets FDA, CE, and ISO 13485 standards.

Orthodontists using Andrew’s straight-wire appliance in 0.018-inch slot prescription use the Height Gauge 0.18 during bracket bonding to set vertical height at each tooth from incisal edge to bracket slot center, a measurement that determines tip, torque expression, and arch form outcome. The Adjustable Height Gauge 0.18 Stainless Steel format covers the full 3.5–5.0mm anterior and posterior height range within the 0.018″ system.

Leader Surgical holds slot-width tolerances to 0.018 inches across all four measurement positions on this instrument, ensuring tie-wing fit consistency throughout a full bonding session. The ProSharp Stainless Steel Height Gauge 0.18 reference confirms this same specification standard across international orthodontic supply networks.
