Dontrix Gauge
The Dontrix gauge is a double-ended stainless steel tension dynamometer with a slender cylindrical barrel housing an internal calibrated spring mechanism. One working end carries a straight single hook tip for engaging orthodontic elastics and coil springs, while the opposite end features a curved J-hook tip for engaging the opposing attachment point. A graduated measurement scale is engraved directly onto the barrel body, marked in ounce increments from 1 oz up to 16 oz (approximately 28g to 450g). This Dontrix Gauge in Orthodontics is constructed entirely from surgical-grade stainless steel with no plastic components.
The internal spring assembly deflects proportionally to applied tension, displacing the measurement rod against the engraved scale to display force at the point of engagement. The surface roughness of the force measuring rod is maintained at ≤1.6μm, ensuring consistent rod travel and repeatable readings across the measurement range. This orthodontic spring force meter withstands full autoclave sterilization and dry heat sterilization cycles, making it fully reusable between patients without calibration loss. The single-piece stainless body has no joints that loosen or degrade under repeated sterilization.
Orthodontists use the Dontrix Force Gauge chairside during fixed appliance treatment to verify and calibrate the force delivered by nickel-titanium coil springs, elastomeric chains, latex elastics, and finger springs. The clinician slips the hook end over the archwire or bracket hook, draws the auxiliary to its working activation position, and reads the force directly from the barrel scale, confirming whether the applied load falls within the target therapeutic range before proceeding with treatment adjustments.
Leader Surgical supplies this instrument knowing that in orthodontic treatment, force quantification is not optional, it is the difference between controlled tooth movement and unpredictable outcomes. Their Dontrix gauge delivers the reliability that clinical accuracy demands, appointment after appointment.
What is a Dontrix gauge used for?
Metro Dontrix Gauge is a precision orthodontic instrument used to measure and calibrate the forces applied by elastics, springs, and auxiliary appliances. Accurate force measurement is essential for safe and effective orthodontic treatment, and this gauge enables clinicians to verify applied forces chairside.
