Dental Strip Saw
The Dental Strip Saw is a U-shaped frame instrument constructed from spring steel with stainless steel hardware components. The frame consists of two parallel rods joined at the base by a U-loop return, which provides inherent spring tension to the assembly. Both rods carry diamond cross-knurled grip surfaces along their upper two-thirds, the textured sections clearly visible in the product image, preventing finger slippage during rocking strokes. The upper ends of both rods curve inward as hooks, accepting the mounting holes at each end of the interproximal abrasive or saw strip. A central knurled locking bolt connects both arms at mid-height, drawing the hook ends together when tightened to apply consistent strip tension across the working length.
The strip tensioning system is adjustable, the locking bolt controls how tightly the strip is held between the two hooks, allowing the clinician to match strip tension to the required abrasive contact force without pre-loading the frame. The instrument accepts standard IPR strips from 0.05mm saw gauge through 0.30mm abrasive thickness. The U-base spring return separates the hooks automatically when the locking bolt is loosened for strip replacement. The instrument is fully autoclavable at 134°C.
Orthodontists use the Dental Strip Saw during Interproximal Reduction (IPR) procedures, threading the abrasive or saw strip between adjacent teeth and applying a back-and-forth rocking motion to reduce enamel thickness and create measured interproximal space. The Magic Strip Holder configuration is used for anterior access; the Posterior Strip Holder variant applies the same frame geometry to premolar and molar interproximal spaces where finger-grip stripping is impractical.
Leader Surgical produces this instrument with verified spring-steel rod diameter and knurling-depth specifications, ensuring consistent strip tension and grip stability across the full IPR strip thickness range used in orthodontic enamel reduction protocols.
Can the tension of the strip be adjusted?
Yes. Tightening the screw makes the strip straight and rigid for sawing through tight contacts; while slightly loosening it allows the strip to curve, which is essential for following the natural contour of the tooth during polishing.
