Dental Minnesota
The Dental Minnesota retractor is a single-piece instrument molded from autoclavable black resin with a smooth, matte surface finish across the entire body. The S-curved profile features one broad, flat curved end for buccal tissue and cheek displacement, and one narrower bayonet-shaped end for tongue depression — both with fully rounded, blunt edges that distribute contact pressure across a wide surface area rather than concentrating it at a single point. A small suspension hole at the upper end allows the instrument to hang for drying and organized storage. The lightweight single-piece construction eliminates joints, seams, or metal-to-resin interfaces that could trap debris or compromise sterilization integrity.
The black resin material absorbs rather than reflects overhead operatory lighting, reducing glare interference during procedures performed under high-intensity illumination. The matte surface texture also engages mucosal tissue slightly better than a high-polish finish, reducing slippage during sustained single-handed retraction. The instrument is fully autoclavable and withstands standard steam sterilization cycles without warping or surface degradation.
General dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists, and orthodontists use Dental Minnesota during surgical extractions, implant placement, mucoperiosteal flap elevation, orthodontic bracket placement, and restorative access procedures. The Minnesota Retractor handles both cheek and tongue displacement in one instrument — the curved end retracts the buccal mucosa while the bayonet end depresses the tongue, eliminating the need for two separate retractors during the same procedure.
Leader Surgical produces this retractor with consistent molding geometry and surface finish across every unit — because when a clinician reaches for the same instrument session after session, it should feel and perform exactly the same every time.
What is a Minnesota retractor used for?
The Minnesota Retractor is used to hold mucoperiosteal flaps, cheeks, lips, and tongue away from the surgical area measuring 5.5″ long and 20.5mm wide.
