The 1 Reddy Thin Perio Knife is a double-ended soft tissue instrument constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel, featuring two narrow, thin blades angled in opposing directions from the central handle axis. Each blade carries a sharp cutting edge only at the tip and terminal face, while the lateral sides remain deliberately dull — a design that allows the blade to travel within the sulcus from the base to the alveolar crest without cutting or damaging the sulcular walls. The blade profile is noticeably narrower than conventional side-cutting periodontal knives, enabling it to navigate tight interproximal sulcular anatomy without resistance. The green-toned ringed knurled barrel handle, visible in the instrument profile, provides a secure, non-slip grip for controlled incision strokes.
The Reddy Thin Periodontal Knife distinguishes itself from broader intrasulcular instruments through its extreme blade thinness, which reduces tissue displacement during insertion and allows the tip to sever the junctional attachment in one clean apical stroke. Unlike the Allen end-cutting knife’s straight blade geometry, the Reddy Thin carries angled blade shanks on both ends, giving the clinician mesial and distal sulcular access in both anterior and posterior sites from a single instrument.
Periodontists use the 1 Reddy Thin Perio Knife during minimally invasive flap procedures and soft tissue grafting preparation. The surgeon inserts the narrow blade tip into the sulcus and advances it apically to sever the soft tissue attachment from the base of the sulcus to the alveolar crest — providing the initial incision access point through which the mucoperiosteal pouch or flap is subsequently developed without surface incisions.
The Intrasulcular Periodontal Knife Reddy pattern is a precise starting instrument for tunnel and pouch procedures. Leader Surgical produces this knife to consistent blade dimensions, verified stainless steel composition, and sterilization-safe green-tone surface finishing.
How does it feel in the hand?
Most high-quality versions feature an 8 mm round hollow handle to provide better tactile feedback and reduce hand fatigue during long surgeries.
