The 1/2 Gracey Curette (Article# LS1-418) is a double-ended, area-specific periodontal instrument with offset blades designed for all buccal surfaces of anterior teeth. Each working end carries a single cutting edge — the lower edge — set at 70 degrees to the terminal shank face, producing a blade angulation that self-positions against the root surface when the shank runs parallel to the tooth. The terminal shank features a short contra-angle with a return angle that keeps the blade toe close to the midline of the handle for improved stability during incisor and canine access. The silicone-grip perforated handle is machined to 165 mm (6.5 inches) overall length.
The single cutting edge on the Dental Gracey Curette 1/2 differentiates it from universal curettes — only the lower edge is active, reducing inadvertent tissue trauma during subgingival insertion. The terminal shank reach of 11 mm suits shallow-to-moderate anterior pockets without requiring extended shank variants. The blade measures 0.9 mm in width and 4 mm in length, producing a narrow profile that inserts into sulcular spaces without distending the gingival tissue margin. The stainless steel body tolerates autoclave sterilization at 134°C without blade offset distortion.
Dental hygienists and periodontists use the 1/2 Gracey Curette during subgingival scaling, root planing, and periodontal debridement on incisors, canines, and buccal anterior surfaces. As part of a gracey curettes set, the 1/2 covers all anterior sextants, with clinicians applying short vertical and oblique pull strokes while maintaining terminal shank parallelism against the root surface throughout the scaling sequence.
Leader Surgical understands what daily clinical practice demands — and builds each instrument to meet that standard without variation, box after box, use after use.
How many cutting edges does it have?
Unlike universal curettes, a Gracey curette has one functional cutting edge per working end (two in total for double-ended models).
