Universal Cord Packer 2mm

Double-ended stainless steel gingival cord packer with 2mm angled blade tips for precise retraction in narrow sulcus areas.

Key Features:
• Surgical-grade stainless steel with dual 2mm flat-blade working tips
• Narrow 2mm tip width allows access to tight gingival sulci
• Right-angled shafts provide controlled vertical cord placement
• Opposing tip orientation enables full circumferential access without repositioning
• Serrated tip faces enhance grip and prevent cord slippage during packing
• Ringed knurled handle ensures secure, fatigue-reducing grip
• Designed for crown, bridge, and veneer retraction procedures
• Autoclavable at 134°C with stable tip geometry under repeated use

The Universal Cord Packer 2mm is a double-ended surgical-grade stainless steel gingival retraction instrument with two 2mm wide flat-blade working tips, each mounted on a sharply right-angled shaft offset from the handle axis. Both ends are set at opposing directional angles; one left and one right, providing full circumferential sulcus access around any tooth from a single instrument without hand repositioning. The 2mm blade width is narrower than standard 2.5mm cord packers, allowing entry into anatomically tighter gingival sulci. The full-length ringed knurled handle provides a secure, fatigue-reducing grip.

The right-angle shaft geometry directs the blade tip vertically downward into the sulcus on each packing stroke, maintaining consistent apical pressure without the blade deflecting laterally against the sulcus wall. The cord packer 2mm serrated tip face grips braided retraction cord during the packing stroke, holding each cord segment in position as the next segment is advanced around the tooth. Both ends tolerate full autoclave sterilization at 134°C and ultrasonic cleaning without blade deformation, angle change, or handle distortion.

Prosthodontists and restorative dentists use this CS1 Cord Packer during single-cord and double-cord gingival retraction for crown and bridge impressions, inlay preparations, and veneer margin exposures. The 2mm tip accesses narrow sulci around anteriors and tightly contoured posterior preparations where wider packers lose blade contact. Using the opposing-direction ends alternately, the clinician packs retraction cord segment by segment into the full sulcus circumference, achieving consistent lateral gingival displacement to expose the preparation finish line clearly before impression material is introduced.

Leader Surgical built this instrument for the situations where sulcus width demands the thinnest blade available, and where right-angle access makes the difference between cord that seats and cord that slips.

Why choose a “Universal” model over other shapes?
The “Universal” design typically features a bent or angled blade that allows clinicians to reach all sides of the tooth (lingual, facial, and interproximal) using vertical “rocking” or “caterpillar” motions. This versatility makes it suitable for almost any clinical situation.
