The Periodontal Gracey Curette G3-4 Double Ended is an area-specific scaling instrument constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel with a rounded toe, rounded back, and semicircular cross-section blade profile. Each working end carries a single cutting edge, offset at 70 degrees to the terminal shank — a geometry that positions the lower cutting-edge flush against the root surface during subgingival strokes. The instrument features two opposing working ends, each angled for lingual and palatal surface access on anterior teeth, as indicated by the Fig. 3/4 designation. The handle shown carries a light blue silicone grip with a dot-pattern surface, providing a firm hold during pull strokes without hand fatigue.
The blade curves both laterally and from head to toe, allowing the cutting edge to follow root contours during activation. Unlike universal instruments, periodontal curettes in the Gracey series use only one cutting edge per working end, reducing the risk of unintended tissue contact on the opposing root wall. The flexible finishing shank gives the clinician tactile feedback during subgingival calculus detection and removal. The instrument is fully autoclavable and maintains dimensional stability through repeated sterilization cycles.
Dental hygienists and periodontists use the Periodontal Gracey Curette G3-4 Double Ended during scaling and root planing on anterior teeth — specifically on the lingual and palatal surfaces of maxillary and mandibular incisors and canines. The clinician inserts the working end subgingivally with the terminal shank parallel to the tooth surface, then applies lateral pressure and pulls coronally in short, overlapping vertical strokes to detach calculus deposits from the root surface.
Gracey Curettes of this pattern are a standard fixture in nonsurgical periodontal therapy trays worldwide. Leader Surgical produces this instrument to strict dimensional tolerances with verified stainless steel composition, consistent blade offset geometry, and a sterilization-safe handle coating — delivering reliable performance across every patient appointment.
Which teeth is the Gracey 3/4 designed for?
It is primarily used for anterior teeth (incisors and canines). While similar to the 1/2 model, it is often preferred for reaching further back, potentially up to the second bicuspids.
