Ochsenbein bone chisel #2

Single-ended periodontal bone chisel with a 5 mm outward-beveled curved blade for controlled facial bone reduction during osseous surgery.

Key Features:
• Single-ended chisel with 5 mm wide curved working blade
• Outward front-face bevel for facial bone recontouring
• Semi-circular lateral notches for interdental access around tooth contours
• Dual-notch shank design allows engagement from facial approach
• Large-diameter diamond-pattern knurled handle for stable grip
• Overall instrument length approximately 160 mm (6.3 in)
• Suitable for hand-pressure or mallet-assisted bone removal
• Surgical-grade stainless steel construction, autoclavable at 134°C

The Ochsenbein Bone Chisel #2 is a single-ended periodontal chisel with a 5 mm wide curved blade, beveled outward on the front face — opposite in bevel orientation to the #1 variant — with semi-circular notches beveled on each side of the blade shank. This dual-notch geometry allows the working end to wrap around the tooth contour and engage directly into the interdental space from the facial approach. The large-diameter diamond-pattern knurled handle is machined from surgical-grade stainless steel, measuring 160 mm (6.3 inches) in overall length, providing stable three-finger grip during both hand-pressure and mallet-driven strokes.

The outward bevel on the Ochsenbein #2 blade face positions the cutting edge to reflect the periosteum and remove bone from the facial surface — complementing the inward bevel action of the #1 in paired osseous surgery workflows. The semi-circular notches on each side of the shank neck allow the blade to slide past the tooth convexity without binding against the root surface during interdental bone access. The stainless steel body withstands autoclave sterilization at 134°C across repeated cycles without blade distortion or cutting edge degradation.

Periodontists use the Ochsenbein Bone Chisel #2 during osseous resective surgery, osteoplasty, and crown lengthening procedures requiring facial bone reduction. The Ochsenbein Periodontal Chisel #2 executes secondary sulcular incisions during flap management, removes secondary palatal flaps, and debrides remaining periodontal fiber attachments from root surfaces after extraction. Surgeons drive the blade with short mallet taps or direct hand pressure, depending on bone density at the surgical site.

Every instrument that leaves Leader Surgical reflects the kind of manufacturing discipline that comes from years of producing tools for surgeons who cannot afford inconsistency in the operatory.

How do the different models (#1, #2, #3, #4) differ?
While all feature a curved, semi-lunar blade, they vary in width and angle to suit different anatomical areas:

  • #1 & #2: Often used for initial incisions and bone contouring.

#3 & #4: Typically used for refining osseous topography and reaching difficult-to-access interdental spaces.
