Langer Universal Curettes
Double-ended universal curette set (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 17/18) with 90° blade geometry for adaptable subgingival scaling across anterior and posterior teeth.
Key Features:
• Available in four patterns: 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 17/18
• Universal blades with two parallel cutting edges and rounded toe
• Blade face set at 90° to terminal shank for mesial and distal adaptation
• Approx. 2 mm blade width with rigid shank for heavy calculus removal
• Shank angulations mirror corresponding Gracey curette patterns
• Slightly shorter, thicker terminal shanks for increased stiffness
• Ringed knurled handle design for enhanced rotational control
• Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel, autoclavable up to 180°C

The Langer Universal Curettes are four double-ended instruments — numbered 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 17/18 — machined from surgical-grade stainless steel. Each working end carries a universal blade with two parallel cutting edges converging at a rounded toe, ground at 90 degrees to the terminal shank face. This geometry allows the same blade to adapt to both mesial and distal tooth surfaces without instrument switching. The handle features a ringed knurled grip pattern that maintains rotational control during scaling strokes. Each blade measures approximately 2 mm in width with a rigid shank that resists lateral flexing against heavy calculus.
The shank design on each numbered pair mirrors the corresponding Gracey curette angulation. The Langer curette 3/4 follows the Gracey 13/14 bend, the 5/6 replicates the Gracey 5/6 anterior shank, and the 17/18 carries accentuated posterior bends for second and third molar reach. Terminal shanks sit slightly shorter and thicker than standard Gracey shanks, adding stiffness for tenacious deposit removal. All variants withstand autoclave sterilization at 180°C without dimensional distortion.
Dental hygienists and periodontists use Langer Universal Curettes during subgingival scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance. The Langer 1/2 targets mandibular posterior premolars and molars, the 3/4 covers maxillary posterior surfaces, and the 5/6 adapts to all anterior teeth. Clinicians work each blade at 70–80 degrees against the root using short vertical and oblique strokes to debride pockets ranging from 3 mm to beyond 5 mm.
Leader Surgical has built a reputation that clinicians across specialties consistently rely on — delivering instruments that hold up through demanding caseloads and repeated sterilization without compromising working geometry.
What makes a Langer curette “universal”?
The blade has two parallel cutting edges and a rounded toe. This allows clinicians to scale both mesial and distal surfaces of a tooth without switching instruments.
