The Fig. 3 Castroviejo Bone Caliper is constructed from German-grade surgical stainless steel with a passivated, corrosion-resistant finish. The instrument measures 18 cm in overall length and features two crossed straight steel shafts joined at a ball-joint pivot. Its defining characteristic is the closed rectangular loop at the upper working end, which replaces open pointed tips and provides a stable tissue-contact surface. A curved V-shaped loop handle bone caliper base carries the graduated measurement scale, etched from 0 to 40 mm in 1 mm increments.
