Crimpable Hook Placement Plier
Adding elastic mechanics mid-treatment without removing the archwire saves appointment time and protects wire integrity, and that clinical advantage begins with the right crimping instrument. The Crimpable Hook Placement Plier (Article# LS8-126) is constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel with a satin finish throughout. Its working end features a deep U-shaped wire-seating groove on one beak and a narrow rectangular crimping ridge on the opposing beak, a matched channel-and-ridge configuration that seats the hook barrel squarely over the archwire before applying compressive crimping force.
The channel-and-ridge beak geometry positions the crimpable hook perpendicular to the archwire axis during closure, preventing rotational slip that misaligns hook orientation post-crimping. The Orthodontic Crimpable Hook Placement Plier accommodates standard and power hook barrel diameters across both round and rectangular archwire cross-sections without tip modification. A large circular box-joint pivot delivers controlled, even jaw closure across every crimp cycle. The stainless-steel body is fully autoclavable at 132–135°C, maintaining tip geometry and pivot alignment through repeated sterilization cycles across extended clinical use.
Orthodontists use the Crimpable Hook Placement Plier during fixed orthodontic appliance therapy to attach auxiliary hooks onto archwires at any position within the arch, without removing the wire from the bracket slots. The clinician slides the hook barrel onto the archwire at the target interproximal location, seats it into the wire groove, and applies a single firm jaw closure. The crimped hook then anchors Class II or Class III elastics, power chains, or coil springs for space closure, canine retraction, and anteroposterior correction mechanics.
Every orthodontic practice reaches a point where pre-positioned bracket hooks simply aren’t enough, and Leader Surgical addresses that clinical reality directly with the crimp hook plier, giving orthodontists the freedom to place auxiliary hooks exactly where biomechanics demand, at any stage of treatment.
