The 9/10 Gracey Curette is a double-ended, area-specific scaling instrument constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel, carrying a blade face offset at 70 degrees to the terminal shank with a single lower cutting edge per working end. The instrument features a wide contra-angle combined with a wide return angle and a short terminal shank reach of 12mm — the most acutely angled shank geometry in the standard Gracey series up to this figure. The blade measures 0.9mm wide and 4mm long with a rounded toe and back. A key visual feature of this Leader Surgical version is the steel-blue silicone dot-grip handle, which stands out immediately on a multi-instrument tray and allows quick figure identification during active treatment.
The Gracey Curettes 9/10 carries a more pronounced shank angulation than the 7/8, with the toe sitting nearly in line with the instrument handle axis. This geometry pushes the blade tip closer to the tooth’s most concave root surfaces — particularly the furcation zone and buccal root concavities of mandibular molars — where the 7/8’s medium return angle cannot reach without compromising stroke direction. The thicker shank also transmits slightly more lateral force to the blade, useful for heavier calculus in these confined areas.
Dental hygienists and periodontists use the 9/10 Gracey Curette during scaling and root planing on the buccal and lingual surfaces of molars, with particular focus on furcation entries and less accessible root concavities. The clinician inserts the working end subgingivally, aligns the terminal shank parallel to the tooth surface, then applies short overlapping oblique pull strokes to remove calculus deposits along the full buccal and lingual root length.
The PDT Amazing Gracey 9-10 Facial & Lingual Curette pattern is a proven posterior standard. Leader Surgical delivers this instrument with verified blade offset geometry, consistent stainless-steel composition, and a sterilization-safe blue silicone handle coating.
What surfaces is the Gracey 9/10 specifically for?
It is designed for the buccal (cheek-side) and lingual/palatal (tongue-side) surfaces of posterior teeth, specifically molars and premolars.
