The 4 Fedi Periodontal Chisel is a single-ended periodontal instrument constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel, featuring a 3.3mm wide working end set at a 50-degree angle to the terminal shank. The blade carries a slightly curved profile with a sharp cutting edge designed for soft tissue incision and interproximal access. As visible in the instrument image, the tapered shank extends from a mid-length knurled grip section into a smooth, elongated handle with a green surface coating, a design that supports a stable modified-pen grasp during directional strokes. The single working end concentrates the instrument’s balance toward the active tip, giving the surgeon direct tactile feedback during tissue contact.
Unlike the double-ended Fedi figures 1 through 3, this Single Ended design places the full functional geometry on one side only, making it the largest and most angulated instrument in the Fedi chisel series. The 50-degree blade offset provides a steeper approach angle, allowing the tip to reach tissue attachments along root surfaces that shallower-angled blades cannot access without extreme wrist deviation. The stainless-steel construction maintains corrosion resistance and edge integrity through repeated autoclave sterilization cycles.
Periodontists use the 4 Fedi Periodontal Chisel during open-flap debridement and resective periodontal surgery. The surgeon directs the angled blade subgingivally along the root surface to sever residual periodontal fiber attachments and excise interproximal soft tissue tabs following primary flap reflection. The steeper blade angle makes this figure particularly suited for posterior teeth where access depth and approach angle are more demanding.
The Fedi Periodontal Chisel Fig. 4 is the go-to instrument when posterior soft tissue access requires a more aggressive blade angulation. Leader Surgical produces this instrument to verified dimensional specifications, consistent stainless-steel composition, and sterilization-safe surface finishing.
How does the 4 Fedi differ from other Fedi models?
While Fedi chisels generally share a purpose for tissue and bone management, the #4 model specifically features a 3.3mm blade set at a 50-degree angle. This specific angulation is designed to provide better access to difficult surgical sites compared to other variations like the Fedi 1, 2, or 3.
