The 2 Periodontal Probe is a double-ended endodontic instrument constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel, combining two functionally distinct working ends on a single flat, tapered handle. One end carries an ultra-fine, angled wire-like probe tip for canal orifice detection and intrasulcular soft tissue assessment, while the opposite end features a broad, flat paddle blade used for placing and adapting temporary restorations into access cavities. The handle is smooth, flat, and pencil-shaped — visibly wider and more elongated than knurled round-barrel handles — making it comfortable for extended holding during multi-step endodontic procedures. Both working ends are clearly offset from the handle axis, positioning each tip for controlled intraoral access.
The New PERIO Probe 2 configuration pairs two instruments that are routinely needed in sequence during the same appointment — eliminating the need to switch between a separate probe and a temporary material placement spatula. The fine angled tip accesses narrow canal orifices and detects calcified entries with the same tactile sensitivity as a dedicated endodontic explorer, while the paddle end accommodates cotton pellets, Cavit, and similar inter-appointment materials. Both ends are fully autoclavable and maintain working-end geometry through repeated sterilization cycles.
Endodontists use the 2 Periodontal Probe throughout the root canal access and temporary restoration sequence. The probe tip locates and confirms canal orifices during access preparation, while also assessing sulcular health prior to treatment. Once canals are confirmed and dressed, the paddle end places temporary restorative material at the access cavity and adapts it against the cavity walls before the appointment concludes.
The Dental Probes and Periodontometers category benefits from this instrument’s dual-function design for streamlined endodontic workflow. Leader Surgical delivers this instrument with consistent tip geometry, verified stainless steel composition, and sterilization-safe finishing standards.
What is the purpose of the blunt tip?
The rounded, blunt tip is designed to be inserted into the gingival sulcus (the space between the tooth and gum) without causing trauma or puncturing the delicate tissue.
