1/2 Solt Periodontal Knife

Double-ended periodontal knife with angled blades for precise interproximal tissue excision during secondary gingivectomy and gingivoplasty procedures.

Key Features:
• Double-ended design with one double-angled and one triple-angled blade
• Sharp cutting edges along both lateral margins converging at pointed tips
• Contra-angled shanks allow access to posterior embrasures without obstruction
• Low-profile blade geometry reduces tissue displacement in col areas and papilla bases
• Round ringed knurled handle for stable three-finger control
• Overall instrument length approximately 165 mm (6.5 in)
• Surgical-grade stainless steel construction, autoclavable at 134°C
• Optimized for secondary interproximal incisions following initial bevel cuts

The 1/2 Solt Periodontal Knife (Article# LS1-317) is a double-ended gingivectomy instrument with two angled blades — one double-angled and one triple-angled — each carrying sharp cutting edges along both lateral blade margins converging at a pointed tip. The contra-angled shank on each working end bends toward the posterior arch, positioning the blade tip into interproximal embrasures without handle obstruction on adjacent teeth. The round ringed knurled handle is machined from surgical-grade stainless steel, measuring 165 mm (6.5 inches) overall, providing stable three-finger control during push and lateral incision strokes.

The angled blade geometry on the Solt Periodontal Knife Fig. 1/2 keeps the working tip low-profile during entry into tight col areas and papillary bases, reducing tissue displacement before the incision begins. Both lateral cutting edges remain simultaneously active, allowing the clinician to sever interproximal tissue on both the insertion and withdrawal stroke without repositioning the blade face between strokes. The stainless-steel body withstands autoclave sterilization at 134°C without blade deformation or cutting-edge degradation across repeated clinical use cycles.

Periodontists use the 1/2 Solt Periodontal Knife during gingivectomy and gingivoplasty procedures as a secondary incision knife, following the initial bevel incision to completely sever the interproximal tissue tag through the col area. The periodontal knife activates with short buccolingual push strokes through the open embrasure space, cleanly releasing the excised gingival segment from the underlying bone before tissue removal with surgical forceps and cotton pliers.

Leader Surgical brings the same no-compromise approach to every instrument it produces — because in a surgical setting, the tool either performs exactly as needed, or it doesn’t belong in the tray.

What is the Solt 1/2 knife used for?
It is designed to make precise, long bevel incisions through the gingiva to remove or recontour soft tissue. It is particularly effective for reaching interproximal areas (the spaces between teeth).
