Dimple Punch Plier

The Dimple Punch Plier (Article# LS8-138) is constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel with a satin finish across both handles and body. The working end features a male hemispherical dome projection on one beak and a corresponding female receiving recess on the opposing beak, a matched male-female tip configuration that produces a controlled 1mm rounded dimple when the jaws close against clear aligner thermoplastic. A box-joint pivot connects the two handle arms, delivering stable, repeatable jaw alignment with each closure cycle across the aligner surface.

The instrument operates without tip heating, relying entirely on the natural moldability of thermoplastic aligner material at room temperature to form the dimple. Notched thumb grips on both handle arms improve operator control during single-handed chairside use. The Clear Aligner Dimple Punch Plier is fully autoclavable, tolerating steam sterilization at 132–135°C without tip deformation or corrosion. The stainless-steel body maintains structural integrity through repeated sterilization cycles, supporting long-term reuse across multiple patient appointments without tip offset or jaw misalignment.

Orthodontists use the Dimple Punch Plier during clear aligner therapy to place targeted spot contact pressure points on any tooth requiring a slight corrective nudge. When a specific tooth lags behind its prescribed movement; whether a rotation, facial tipping, lingual tipping, or retention issue, the clinician positions the dome tip at the exact lingual or facial surface of that tooth’s aligner compartment and applies firm jaw pressure. The resulting 1mm dimple creates a localized force that pushes the tooth toward its planned position without remaking the tray.

Leader Surgical consistently delivers instruments that address precise clinical needs with no compromise on build quality, and this Punch Plier gives orthodontists a dependable, chairside-ready tool for managing tooth movement lag at every stage of aligner treatment.

How do dimples help with tooth movement?
The 0.8mm to 1mm dimples create pressure points (spot contacts) that “nudge” teeth in a specific direction or provide extra grip to prevent the aligner from slipping.
