Horizontal Punch Plier

Directional aligner adjustment plier designed for creating horizontal pressure-point indents for torque control and retention enhancement.

Key Features:
• Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel with satin-finished body
• Horizontal rectangular punch tip forms controlled 0.75 mm × 1.5 mm indents
• Male-female beak configuration ensures precise and repeatable indentation geometry
• Circular pivot joint maintains stable jaw alignment during compression
• Room-temperature operation requires no tip heating before use
• Slim cross-hatched handles provide secure grip with reduced hand bulk
• Fully autoclavable at 132–135°C without pivot loosening or tip deformation
• Designed for aligner torque adjustment and undercut retention enhancement

Horizontal Punch Plier

Machined from surgical-grade stainless steel with a satin-finished body, the Horizontal Punch Plier (Article# LS8-137) carries a horizontally oriented rectangular male projection on one beak and a precisely matched female slot recess on the opposing jaw. This tip geometry differs fundamentally from rounded dimple or flat eraser configurations, the elongated horizontal profile targets a narrower, directionally specific indentation zone on aligner thermoplastic. A circular pivot joint locks both beak arms into consistent alignment, and the slim, cross-hatched handles provide a controlled grip without adding unnecessary bulk.

When the jaws close against clear aligner material, the rectangular tip presses a horizontal indent measuring approximately 0.75mm × 1.5mm into the aligner wall at the chosen tooth location. No tip heating is required, the Hole Punch Plier works at room temperature, using mechanical pressure alone. The corrosion-resistant stainless-steel construction withstands full autoclave sterilization at 132–135°C across repeated cycles, with no tip deformation or pivot loosening over clinical service life. The instrument meets standard sterilization protocols applicable across orthodontic practice environments.

Orthodontists deploy the Horizontal Punch Plier during clear aligner therapy specifically to address two distinct clinical needs: accenting individual root torque on a target tooth, and improving aligner or retainer retention around a tooth’s undercut anatomy or below a bonded composite attachment. The clinician marks the facial or lingual aligner surface at the precise tooth location, positions the horizontal beak squarely against it, and applies firm, single-action jaw compression, placing a directional indent that increases the mechanical engagement between aligner and tooth without requiring a laboratory remake.

Since its founding, Leader Surgical has understood that orthodontic success depends on having exactly the right instrument at exactly the right moment, and the Horizontal Punch Plier reflects that understanding, giving clinicians direct chairside control over torque and retention adjustments in one reliable tool.

What materials are these pliers made from?
High-quality tools are typically forged from 440A German stainless steel or surgical-grade alloy steel to ensure durability and resistance to corrosion.
