The Prichard Periodontal Periosteal Elevator Fig.4 (Article# LS1-367) is a double-ended mucoperiosteal instrument with two flat-profile spatula blades — both wide and slightly angled — mounted on opposing curved shanks at each end of the handle. Unlike the Fig.3 variant which pairs a narrow-pointed tip with a wide blade, the Fig.4 carries broad spatula blades on both ends, making it a dedicated retraction instrument rather than a combined elevation-retraction tool. The round ringed knurled handle is machined from surgical-grade stainless steel, measuring 165 mm (6.5 inches) overall, balancing at mid-handle throughout sustained retraction strokes.
The dual wide-blade configuration on the Prichard periosteal elevator Fig.4 provides maximum retraction surface area from both working ends, allowing the clinician to hold large full-thickness flaps away from the bone without rotating or repositioning the instrument between buccal and lingual retraction angles. The broad flat blade face distributes retraction pressure evenly across the mucoperiosteum rather than concentrating it at a single edge, reducing tearing risk during extended surgical access. Both blades tolerate repeated autoclave sterilization at 134°C without deformation.
Periodontists and oral surgeons use the Prichard Periodontal Periosteal Elevator Fig.4 during extensive osseous resective surgery, guided bone regeneration, full-arch implant site preparation, and bone grafting procedures requiring prolonged, stable flap retraction across large surgical fields. The prichard periosteal elevator Fig.4 suits posterior molar and palatal sites where sustained broad-blade retraction keeps the flap fully open during curettage, scaling, and graft placement sequences without assistant retraction dependency.
Leader Surgical knows that the instruments clinicians use daily need to perform identically on the hundredth use as on the first — and every elevator leaving this production line is built to that exact standard.
How does the “Black Line” finish on the Periodontal Prichard Periosteal Instrument Fig. 4 affect tactile feel?
Beyond reducing glare, the Black Line coating creates a slightly harder, “slicker” surface. This allows the instrument to slide between the bone and the periosteum with less friction, which many surgeons feel improves their “tactile feedback”—the ability to “feel” the density of the tissue they are reflecting.
