Prichard Periodontal Periosteal Elevator Fig.3

Double-ended periosteal elevator with 11 mm spatula and 5 mm pointed blade for controlled flap elevation and retraction in oral surgical procedures.

Key Features:
• Double-ended design with 11 mm flat spatula and 5 mm curved pointed tip
• 11 mm wide blade for broad periosteal reflection and flap retraction
• 5 mm pointed curved tip for precise subperiosteal entry
• Beveled blade surfaces for smooth tissue separation without tearing
• Approx. 165 mm (6.5″) overall length for balanced surgical control
• Surgical-grade stainless steel construction for durability
• Knurled cylindrical handle with ringed grip for secure handling
• Fully autoclavable with resistance to deformation and surface wear

The Prichard Periodontal Periosteal Elevator Fig.3 (Article# LS1-366) is a double-ended mucoperiosteal instrument combining two functionally distinct working ends — a large flat-profile spatula blade approximately 11 mm wide on one end, and a smaller curved pointed tip approximately 5 mm wide on the other. Both blades are precision-finished and beveled on the non-tissue-facing side to allow smooth subperiosteal entry without tearing the flap margin. The round ringed knurled handle is machined from surgical-grade stainless steel, measuring 165 mm (6.5 inches) overall, with the balance point centered at mid-handle.

The small pointed curved end of the PR-3 Prichard Periosteal initiates the elevation sequence — entering beneath the periosteum at the incision margin and separating it from the underlying bone with short push strokes. Once the initial separation is established, the clinician flips to the large flat spatula end for broad sweeping retraction across the bone surface. The wider blade provides greater leverage during full-thickness flap retraction and holds the elevated mucoperiosteum firmly away from the surgical field during curettage and scaling.

Periodontists and oral surgeons use the Prichard Periodontal Periosteal Elevator Fig.3 during osseous resective surgery, implant site preparation, guided bone regeneration, and crown lengthening procedures. The Periosteal Elevator Prichard #3 large spatula end is particularly effective for retracting flaps on the palate and lingual molar surfaces where wide-blade contact reduces soft tissue tearing during sustained retraction throughout extended surgical sequences.

Leader Surgical consistently delivers instruments where thoughtful design meets manufacturing discipline — producing tools that add real clinical value without overcomplicating what belongs in the tray.

Why is the handle often hollow or knurled?
A hollow handle makes the instrument lightweight to reduce hand fatigue and the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. The knurled (diamond pattern) grip ensures a non-slip hold and better tactile sensitivity during delicate procedures.
