The Partsch Bone Mallet features a cylindrical, double-ended head with a diameter of 22 mm and two slightly convex impacting surfaces that distribute striking force evenly across the chisel butt. The head is lead-filled, bringing the total instrument weight to 200 g (7 oz), which produces consistent impact momentum without requiring excessive swing force. The handle is a smooth, tapered stainless steel rod approximately 180 mm in length, narrowing toward the mid-section for a secure two-finger grip. The entire instrument measures close to 190 mm overall and is manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel that withstands repeated autoclave sterilization at 134°C without surface degradation.
The lead-filled core inside the cylindrical head absorbs residual vibration after each strike, reducing the rebound felt in the surgeon’s wrist. This internal dampening separates the Surgical Mallet Partsch from hollow-head variants, which tend to produce sharper kickback on dense cortical bone. The stainless steel outer shell remains fully sealed, preventing any contact between the lead core and sterile field. As an Orthopedic Bone Hammer of the lighter classification, it sits between mini mallets and heavier 300 g instruments in terms of striking output.
Oral surgeons and periodontists use the Partsch Bone Mallet during alveolar bone surgery, tooth impaction removal, and guided bone regeneration procedures. It delivers controlled blows to the butt ends of chisels, osteotomes, and gouges during osteotomies and bone graft harvesting. Surgeons drive it with short, wrist-controlled strokes rather than full arm swings, maintaining directional accuracy on narrow chisel heads in confined intraoral spaces.
Every instrument that leaves Leader Surgical reflects the kind of manufacturing discipline that comes from years of producing tools for surgeons who cannot afford inconsistency in the operatory.
Why is it “lead-filled”?
The head of the mallet is lead-filled to provide additional weight (200g/7 oz) while maintaining a compact size. This design helps deliver impact efficiently with minimal rebound or traumatic force transfer to the surgeon’s hand or the patient’s bone.
