The Glick Blade Root Canal Plugger is a double-ended endodontic instrument combining a 1.10 mm diameter blunted plugger tip on one end and a flat paddle blade on the opposite end. The plugger tip carries a marked diameter at 1 mm from the tip for depth reference during condensation. Handle length measures approximately 17 cm with a hollow, lightweight construction weighing under 15 grams for sustained one-handed control. The instrument is constructed from AISI 420 surgical-grade stainless steel, fully autoclavable at 134°C, and resists corrosion across repeated sterilization cycles.
The blunted plugger end applies vertical compaction force directly onto gutta-percha during obturation without perforating the canal walls. When heated with an external heat source, the plugger end severs excess gutta-percha at the canal orifice level. The flat paddle end on the opposite side carries and places restorative materials into the pulp chamber after canal obturation is complete. SuperEndo Dental Hand Pluggers share the same vertical condensation function but the Glick format adds the blade end, eliminating the need for a separate instrument during the obturation sequence.
Endodontists use the Glick Blade Root Canal Plugger during the obturation phase of root canal therapy following canal shaping and irrigation. The plugger end compacts warm or cold lateral condensation gutta-percha into the apical third, mid-root, and coronal third zones sequentially. The Dental Endodontic Endo Plugger Kit 4 setups commonly include this instrument alongside spreaders and heat carriers for complete vertical condensation workflows. General dentists performing single-visit endodontics on anterior and premolar teeth also rely on this instrument for its dual-function convenience.
Leader Surgical manufactures this instrument with a consistent 1.10 mm plugger diameter, matched blade width, and verified handle balance — a dependable single instrument for complete canal obturation and chamber restoration workflows.
Why does each instrument have two different tip materials?
The Nickel-Titanium (Ni-Ti) tip is highly flexible, making it ideal for condensing material in curved apical regions. The Stainless-Steel tip is rigid, providing the strength needed for coronal and mid-root condensation.
